Introduction:
We’re two friends who first met in high school German class in a small town in the mid-west. Fast forward five years, and Zach returned from the Army, leading us to unexpectedly bump into each other in a Christmas Eve church service. From that moment on, we became inseparable and soon got married. What followed is a story filled with ups and downs, four children, over two decades of marriage, countless adventures…and we never stopped dreaming.
We blinked and the kids, who are our entire world, decided to grow up and go and do things like college and the military, which left us here at home on our own. Now we’re those older parents telling everyone that time goes so fast, and to cherish every moment with your little ones – because it truly does fly by.
With the new found extra time on our hands, we decided to buy our first rental property, a dream in the making for years and years, and this is where we tell our story. 🙂
The Seed is Planted
In 2017, we had an idea – to sell our current home and build a new one as our first investment property. We had our eyes set on a rapidly growing neighborhood in town, with beautiful secluded lots nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac. Intuition told us that a house in that location would appreciate quickly in the coming years. With this vision in mind, we devised a five-year plan.
Building Our Foundation
Our goal was to build a home that would provide a comfortable living space for our two youngest children to complete their high school years. After their graduation, we aimed to sell the property and utilize the profits to invest in a multi-family home or a short-term rental. So, we took the leap and listed our house for sale and within a few weeks, it sold, and we downsized into a rental, commencing the building process.
